 Market Update
Markets started the week where they left off last Friday, that is by falling further before starting to edge back up on Tuesday afternoon. The Russell 2000 finished the week 0.98% higher, the S&P 500 was flat for the second week in a row, while the Nasdaq 100 shed 0.79%. As we pointed out 2 weeks ago, the Russell 2000 and the S&P 500 have outperformed the Nasdaq 100 since mid-January, as money rotated out of technology stocks following the big run up of the previous month. Such changes in market leadership are very common: it clearly indicates that money is not leaving the markets, it is just being allocated to different vehicles. This is the reason we think it is a good idea to diversify among all 3 indices. First, it limits your risk and second, it guarantees that you will capture some of the best performance, wherever it occurs.

Our current Buy signal remains active.

Q1 2004 Subscriber Survey Results - Part 2

The TimingCube Staff would like to thank all of the participants in the Subscriber Survey one more time. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us understand your needs and opinions. Last week, the Q1 2004 Subscriber Survey Results - Part 1 was dedicated to reviewing the quantitative survey questions, 1 through 20.
As promised, this week we review the qualitative answers to Question 21, which was an open ended call for your comments and suggestions. This editorial summarizes the feedback you provided and offers some responses and commentary on our part. The complete results for all questions, including the details for question 21, can be accessed by clicking here: Q1 2004 TimingCube Subscriber Survey Report.

Summary of comments and suggestions.
Of the 832 survey participants, 51% (424) contributed comments and suggestions, and frequently more than one. A full 18% of all comments are supportive or appreciative statements. It is difficult for us to properly express how rewarding it is to read numerous comments like "Keep up the good work", "I am very satisfied with the service", "Good job", "Your website is terrific", "Very professional and user-friendly", "Delighted to be your subscriber", "I love the Weekly Updates", "I really appreciate what you do".

The second most frequent type of comment is from new subscribers who have not yet lived through a complete signal cycle, and therefore have not experienced first hand how fulfilling it is to

  1. have the courage to decide and commit money to the plan
  2. have the patience to let the trend work its course
  3. seeing the plan come through and bear fruits.

A recurring theme of new subscribers is the limited level of confidence in the system, and themselves, and the feeling that time and positive experiences will let them trust more and more of their serious money with Trend Timing. The catch is that true positive experiences only come about when one is personally invested, not by observing someone else's experience. Which leads us to other oft repeated comments:

  • "I should have followed your signal when I first joined"
  • "I'm new and waiting for the next signal"
  • "I just need the courage to follow your signal and jump back in"
  • "I need guidance for entering mid-signal"
  • "Help me find the ideal point to enter or add to my existing position"

The ideal time to enter would have been with the previous signal, but the next best time is always right now. In view of the number of people hesitating on the side lines we will prepare a special editorial on the subject in the near future. In the mean time you can review the FAQ published on October 10, 2003.

Other common suggestions are to provide signal access over the phone (see the announcement below) and new service or product ideas. The new service requests most repeated are individual stocks, options and futures strategies, gold, and sectors/country funds. Some of you are asking for more frequent trading for aggressive investors, micro trends, etc.
What must be perfectly clear is that the current Trend Timing model will absolutely not be changed or "tweaked" to accommodate traders or attempt to suppress the 5% to 7% mini-corrections we experience every once in a while. This would assuredly lead to the demise of the system, as has been the case on so many occasions in the history of stock market timing systems.

Again, for a complete list of the comments and suggestions, please read the complete Q1 2004 TimingCube Subscriber Survey Report.

 FAQ of the Week
Question: Can I check the signal over the phone?

As expressed in the recent survey, our dependency on the Internet and e-mail to communicate signals was perceived as a potential gap in our service. Indeed, many subscribers tell us that they do not always have access to a computer or the Internet, for example when vacationing in remote areas or traveling overseas. Knowing that you might miss the next signal is not only unsettling but could lead to missed opportunities. You spoke, we listened!

As of today, when away from the Internet or e-mail, subscribers can obtain our Current Signal over the phone by using our new "Signal by Phone" service. The message is updated daily, at the same time as the Web site, after the market close by 7:00 pm ET. Access number and code details can be found in the "My Profile" page after you log in. The access phone number is a regular toll number (703 area code) because toll-free numbers (800) cannot be accessed internationally. For security, each subscriber is issued their own unique access code which you can enter or speak when prompted.

Try it out, AND, be sure to write down your access numbers to take with you whenever you expect to be away from the Internet and e-mail for any length of time.

Warm wishes and until next week.
