 Market Update
For the first time since January 2002, the Nasdaq Composite passed the 2,000 mark on Monday and managed to close the week above that level. It also finished 2003 with strong gains, a welcome change from the losses of the previous 3 years. We keep getting good news on the economy. Today, the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) said its index of manufacturing activity jumped to 66.2 in December, exceeding the 61.0 estimate and setting a new 20-year high.

For the week, the Nasdaq Composite gained 1.70% while QQQ was 1.42% higher. Our current Buy signal remains active.

 Trend Timing School
Beware of forecasts and predictions

You are almost certain to hear and read numerous "2004 market forecast" or "The best investments for 2004" type editorials most of the financial media feel obligated to provide at this time of the year. While most of us Trend Timers know better, the notion of being able to anticipate the future is tempting or even compelling when the predictions come from well known and respected pundits and industry figures. It is therefore important to remember that no one can consistently and accurately predict the future of the stock market in a vacuum. However logical and sensible arguments can be about what the market will do, or why stocks are extremely overvalued, or why the rotation will now shift favor from technology stocks to the next hot sector, or about a correction being long overdue, the markets will never cease to surprise and behave in mysterious ways.

With this in mind, we will just continue to trust our trend following Model and let the market tell us what the predominant direction is, not the other way around!

 FAQ of the Week
Question: Will I receive the next signal change e-mail notification?

Undoubtedly the most valuable benefit of your TimingCube subscription is to receive the Buy/Sell/Cash signals in a timely manner. Yet we know that at least 10% of you will miss the signal because you will never receive the signal e-mail notification. How do we know? We count the number of Weekly Update e-mail notifications that bounce for one reason or another, such as an invalid e-mail address or a mailbox that is full. And there are many more we don't know about because many of the providers will simply discard and throw away e-mails they decide are spam.

We are fully committed to reliably detect signals and to send timely e-mail notifications to all active subscribers, but we cannot guarantee you receive them. This is your responsibility! Only you can tell if you receive our e-mails, and if not, need to immediately identify and correct the problem.

Here are a few tips that can help in this process:

  • Opt to receive the Weekly Update e-mail notifications whether you read them or not. This provides a simple and efficient weekly end-to-end test for your primary and alternate e-mail addresses, if you provided both. This is the default setting in the Preferences section of the "My Profile" page
  • Make sure every Friday evening that you correctly receive the e-mail(s)
  • If you don't receive an e-mail, start with verifying your e-mail address(es) on the "My Profile" page
  • Make sure your e-mail is set-up properly and that your mailbox is not full
  • If you still do not receive our e-mails, check with your provider and make sure they do not discard TimingCube e-mails as spam. Our e-mails come from one of three possible addresses: info@timingcube.com, sales@timingcube.com or support@timingcube.com
  • You can test end-to-end e-mail delivery at any time by using the "Test E-mail" button at the bottom of the "Current Signal" page (Editor's note: This sentence was added on April 30, 2004 for completeness)

Warm wishes and until next week.w
